About the role

We’re looking for a Mechanical Engineering Working Student to support our development team bringing next-gen UAV concepts to life - from early CAD design to flight-ready prototypes. You'll gain hands-on experience across design, assembly, and testing of full-scale cargo drones.

At NEX Aero, we are building the next generation of heavy-duty cargo drones - designed for missions where reliability, resilience, and reach are everything.

If you're ready to apply your mechanical design skills in a fast-moving aviation environment, and want to be part of a team designing systems, we’d love to hear from you!

Your responsibilities

  • Support mechanical and structural design in OnShape
  • Assist in prototyping, 3D-printing and mechanical assembly of UAV components
  • Contribute to integration and testing of propulsion, flight control, and avionics systems
  • Prepare and conduct prototype (flight-)test campaigns, together with the engineering team
  • Collaborate across disciplines (aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, and systems engineering)

Your profile

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field
  • Proficient in CAD software (OnShape, Solidworks, or similar)
  • Familiarity with FEM or CDF tools is a plus
  • Experience with prototyping and 3D-printing
  • Hands-on experience with UAVs, RC aircraft or aerospace related student projects is a plus
  • Maker mindset - comfortable in shopfloors, soldering, assembling, and testing
  • Organized, proactive, and eager to learn in a fast-paced startup environment
  • Strong communication skills, and fluency in English (German or other languages are a plus)
